After your test
The specimen goes to a SAMHSA-certified laboratory and then to a Medical Review Officer. A verified negative is the result you need: it's released to your employer or, for owner-operators, to Brya Health Test as your C/TPA. Under the FMCSA Clearinghouse rules, your employer or C/TPA — not the lab and not you — reports the negative Return-to-Duty result, and your SAP's follow-up testing plan must also be on file. Once both are recorded, your Clearinghouse status moves out of PROHIBITED and a South Dakota carrier can return you to safety-sensitive work.
Follow-up testing (Step 6) begins right after. It's unannounced, runs on your SAP's schedule, and a missed test puts you back in prohibited status.
